Me and The Others

The American Way

I am attempting to navigate the world of socialized medicine. I was able to get “registered” yesterday, and had to call for an “urgent” appointment to get a prescription refilled because they are booking out two weeks in advance right now.

I called at 8:30 am on the dot and was 9th in the phone queue. It didn’t take too long to get through which was nice.

The receptionist answered, “May I help?”
I told her what I needed, and she gave me a time for today at 3:40 pm. Which is fantastic! Then she asked my birthdate.
I said, ” eleven, two, oh, wait I am doing this wrong. The second of November 19…”

The receptionist said, “Oh, you are in the American way aren’t you.”

I felt sheepishly embarrassed, perhaps not unlike a pregnant teenager.

So apparently after 4 months England, I am still in the American way. 🙂 Now I am giggling about it.

After 16 years in America I’m still in the European way. My favorite date is Jan first. I got that one down.

Been enjoying following (stalking?) you guys. Thanks for sharing.
